I've heard nothing but good things about Nikkei from people who've worked there, so I asked here.
I heard that they don't pay overtime, that overtime is the norm to begin with, and that there are some amazing oddballs...

Japanese-affiliated companies have their own peculiarities, and some of them are still carrying on the old Japanese corporate traditions of the past.
If you get a job in such a place, it's bad....
Once in a month or two, after work, there is a dinner party, a drinking party, and so on... It's just a nuisance.
The president of the company, who appears to be soft-spoken but is actually a one-man operation and talks to the workers from behind the scenes. To be frank, there are many cramped places in Japanese-affiliated companies.

I don't think there is any difference between Japanese-affiliated and US-affiliated companies, but

Japanese-owned or Japan-headquartered expatriate Japanese companies (medium or small) require Japanese style before work. They also ask you if you are Japanese ？ and if that person is Japanese and so on. And yet, there are many unintelligible complaints about the fact that we are in the US.

American workers are expected to be able to do their job, so even if there are seniors and juniors, they don't care about Mr. something, and they don't talk about who is Japanese and who is not. If you can do your job well and get along with everyone without any particularity or rancor, you will do well. Long term vacations are totally acceptable.

Benefits are similar in large companies, but many Japanese companies pay for health insurance for family members. In American companies, family members are often required to pay for their own health insurance.

For now, don't limit yourself to one or the other, but choose a company based on work concentration, salary, and benefits ？ You may be able to find the right company whether it is Japanese or US based.

I see ？ We are both major US companies and both cover our family. I have that one because my company is cheaper, but my children are covered by the one with the higher coverage.

So far, Taiwanese （ benefits are not so good, almost the same as in China ） I have seen Japanese and American companies in terms of benefits, and I feel that the American company is by far the best.
If it is the same type of work, I would prefer US-affiliated companies.
