おすすめの車はなんでしょうか？

最近カルフォルニアに引っ越してきました。近いうちに自分用の車を購入しなければいけないのですが、車のことが全然わかっていません。
運転にあまり自信がないので安全運転には気をつけているのですが、以前カルフォルニアにいた時に目の前で２回ほど車が事故を起こしたのを見てから、自分が気をつけていても他の車からの衝突のことも考えなければと思い、なるべく車体の頑丈なものがいいなと思っています。エコカーが燃費と環境の為に欲しかったのですが、自分がカルフォルニアにいる間は安全な車が一番の優先順位かなと思って来てます。
そこで予算はそんなに無いので手頃な価格の丈夫なおすすめの車があったらしりたいので、どなたかアドバイスいただけないでしょうか？
