I lived in Southern California around 1970, from 1976 until 1991, and returned last year at the age of 60.
I was born in Japan, but my father's work took me to Paris when I was 4 years old, and to Southern California when I was 9 （ in 1970 ）.
I first learned Japanese at Tozai Gakuen. In fact, my wife and I were married in a church at Tozai Gakuen. Have Mr. and Mrs. Nakamura passed away? ？
I returned to Japan after about two years, but the other day I took my 21-year-old son by car around Torrance and Gardena, where we used to live.
At that time, only expatriate families from various companies drove Japanese cars. I remember Mr. Toyoda's wife was driving a Corolla. Our family was a Honda.
You can tell which expatriate you are.
Then when I was 15, my father left and we came back. At first we lived in Redondo Beach, but for some reason I went to South High School in Torrance. I remember washing dishes at a sushi restaurant called "Kikusui" at night, but of course that restaurant is no longer there. I remember there was a restaurant called "Yuki" in 1970 as well, I believe. At that time they didn't let us have sushi, it was inari-zushi, and I remember visiting there several times, even when I was 15 years old back then.
I remember this place too, but I wonder if it is now an office or Walmart ？
I missed South Bay, although it was moved to San Fernando Valley in 1977.
While attending UCSD, I worked as a tourist guide in Los Angeles during summer vacations to earn money for tuition and living expenses. As I recall, I was a subcontractor for Nittsu Travel. It allowed me to get through graduate school without incident, and I also learned public speaking. I returned to Japan in 1991 and came back to the US in 2010. I went to Boston, Silicon Valley, and then came back here. Now I live looking at the Pacific Ocean. When I was a guide, I used to go to "Kushinobo" in Little Tokyo. That area has completely changed since then. I remember the store on the first floor with the deer symbol, but I can't remember the name. That area was crowded with tourists. I used to earn commissions by selling "Senka" Beef Jerkey. Sushi Gen still exists, but I wonder if it is the same as it used to be. ？ I have not tried it yet.
I wrote this with nostalgia. It is a year, isn't it?
