どうしてこのような表現が最近使われるようになったのか、どなたかご説明していただけますか？個人的に少し教養がない響きがあるのですが。

2006年頃に生まれた和製英語で2005年11月に創刊した女性雑誌『GISELe』（ジゼル・主婦の友社）が具体的な年齢を出さずに年齢を伝えるために使い始めたのが始まりといわれ、正確に英語で伝える場合は“around the age of 30”となる。もともとは女性に対して使われていたが、その後男性に対しても使われるようになった。

だそうですよ
仲間探しでみんな使ってますが１０才の幅で年言われてもね～。
相手がこれ言ってきたらボツですね～。

アラフォー、アラフィフ、アラカン・・・
相手の性別にかかわらず、普通に使われます。特に女性に限った事ではありません。
男性も独身者は年齢をぼやかすそうですよ。

たとえばこの掲示板では60代特有のギャグを言う人がいます。今頃「ダメよダメダメ」とか。
あるいは1960年代70年代の流行歌を使ったギャグとか。
「アラカンはこれだから」と、聞いているほうは言ったりする。自分が意われればイヤなのに。
