留学を終えて帰国するとは、最終的にI-94を飛行場で渡すと終了なのですか?

留学を終えて帰国する際、イミグレのPCに記録されるのはI-94が提出された日にちなのか、パスポートに押された日にちなのか、両方か、一体何をもってこの人は合法に出国しましたとなるのでしょうか?

US出国の際に、カナダやメキシコの陸路を使って違う国に入国し、数日観光したのち帰国の場合はどうなるのでしょう?

将来、観光で再入国したいので違法になりたくありません。
