How about telling the couple to change their contact information to Japan for tax, Medicare, and other important mail senders?
Most information should be available online these days.

It is normal to inform people by email instead of by mail. Or ask the couple if it would be OK if we open the package, take a picture of it and email it to you, since forwarding is too much trouble.

You could open the mail, scan it with a printer
and ask if you can send it as an attachment by e-mail.
If it is a Green Card that you want to sever with the US, you can just return it and the tax problem will be solved.

Those people don't use email. We are an elderly couple. I do have a line, so I take pictures and send them each time, but they asked me to send important things as soon as possible by writing them down. I have a piece of mail that I couldn't get once.

We have not notified the IRS or Medical. The bank is still the same, but since it is a union bank, they are sending the STATEMENT to Japan.

I wish USPS had a service to forward everything overseas.
I thought it would be easy to return home, and they threw it all away.
If you receive something important, it is better to send it by registered mail. It is difficult because the post office is only open on Saturdays.

Union Bank in Los Angeles will eventually go away and be replaced by another bank name

I have a similar experience.
A friend of mine, a grandmother in her late 60s, asked me to rent her address for a year, and I agreed for one year, and it has been 5 years. She had asked a friend before, but one day she was furious and said she could no longer use the friend's address. I didn't understand why her friend was so furious, but when I tried it, I understood. I wonder what they would do if they leave their bank account here to return to Japan permanently. You could go to the SS office and change your receiving account for your pension in the US and they would send it to you. Japanese pension is every two months, so if you go back and open a bank account and change the pension transfer.

Even with a Green Card, you can't just throw the jury summons letter in the trash as it is.
Even if you live in any country in the world with a Green Card, you still have to file the same taxes as a US citizen.

Some people who return home permanently take their Green Card home with them and keep it as a souvenir, though.
