Marriage after overstay, green card

Problem / Need advice

Hello. I entered the country previously on a tourist visa to meet my American boyfriend (now husband). My boyfriend became sick with an internal disease and while I was taking care of him, his visa expired and he overstayed. We later married in the U.S. and my husband is now healthy and he has a stable income. I have never worked in the US. I am applying for a green card, but I am paroling ? because of my overstay and I think I will have to go back to the US Embassy in Japan for an interview.
I am quite anxious because Trump will be president for a period of time. I am worried that I will not be able to re-enter Japan ? if I go back to Japan because of the alternative situation due to Trump being tough on immigrants.
I would appreciate your advice or anyone with similar experiences. Sorry for the rambling.

I think you are applying to immigration within the US, in which case if you were married to a citizen, overstay would not have been an issue. \If you are married to a citizen, then overstay was not an issue. The way to go for an embassy interview in Japan is to apply to the national visa center, not the immigration office, so the application documents and waiting time are totally different, but what is the situation like? If you have already applied, you would have been able to apply under the same conditions as a marriage with a normal citizen, regardless of overstay.

President-elect Donald ・ Trump confirmed Monday that he will
declare a national emergency to fulfill his campaign promise to deport large numbers of immigrants living in the United States without
legal permission.

Also
Trump's re-election has raised fears of deportation, and
Haitian immigrants are apparently being evacuated from Ohio City.

Where's Ohio City ? and the inauguration is still 2 months away...

By the way, how can there be only one interview ( for a woman ) ? when you have to interview both ??

Thank you all very much.
I am now in a position to get a green card without an interview and with only status adjustment ! I am relieved that the process is going well.
Thank you very much.

I heard that if a country has a mutual reporting agreement on immigration
citizenship in that country, the other country will be contacted.
They say that eventually your dual citizenship will be exposed.

It was ok ! I overstayed only a short time and got married right away, so they said I just need to go through the process of changing my status.
It's the end of the year and I'm happy that I'm going to get a green card.
Thank you !

I overstayed and got my green card last year. It took 2 years and 9 months. I got married right after I overstayed and processed for my green card, but when it came time for my interview, I was told "TOKYO" and thought that I could not come back to the US once I left ( I had a 1 year old son, so I was in trouble ) I spent months asking Japan and US agencies if I could have my interview in the US, but they kept asking me to come back. I had been inquiring for months about interviewing in the U.S. and Japan, but I was kept inundated with inquiries. I was passed the period of time without getting an interview. I hired a lawyer and explained the situation to him, and he told me that there was no problem ( and that he had a special route to contact the immigration office ) I wrote various application documents again and waited. Six months from there, I suddenly received a 10-year green card at home. I did not have an interview. Personally, I recommend you to hire a lawyer because I think it is the safest and fastest way. I wish you to get your green card safely ! ! ! I know how you feel now.

Did you really receive a GC with a 10 year expiration date ?
Do you think the first people to get a GC, including me, received a 2 year one?

If you apply for a green card within 2 years of marriage, the first green card you will be issued will be a 2-year conditional green card; after 2 years you will apply to have the condition removed and you will be issued a 10-year green card. If you apply for a green card more than two years after your marriage, you will be issued a 10-year green card from the beginning.

You most likely obtained your green card within 2 years of marriage.
