I am also old enough to have had cataract surgery on both eyes at different times.

I also have Kaiser health insurance and medical facility with Medicare, so both eyes were operated
at Kaiser. Usually the CoPay for internal medicine is around $20, but for major surgery with anesthesia
the CoPay alone is around $250.

The rest is covered by insurance, but I get a report in the mail every 6 months from the insurance processing
which shows that the surgery cost almost $3,000 per eye.


The anesthesia is not a general anesthesia, but only a numbing of the pain points
and the stopping of all voluntary movements, including the focus of the eyeball, so that by the end of the surgery, you are seeing a psychedelic image
that is incomprehensible. You can also hear the sounds of the scalpels and instruments in action.
