コミカレから４年制大学への編入について

うちの息子はアメリカ国籍をもつ高校生です。
コミカレからの編入はかなり大変なのでしょうか？
もしコミカレに行くのなら高校生のうちにSATのスコアを上げるために塾などに行く必要はないでしょうか？
（初めから４年生に行く場合は塾に行くのでしょうか？）
ご存知の方、教えてくだされば幸いです。
