I guess paper "newspapers" and "weekly magazines" are not sold in Japan today due to the spread of the Internet.

When I travel to Japan and walk around the city or take the train, I don't see any newspaper/weekly magazine stands.

On the other hand, my daily life is "Sunday Mainichi". In the past, there were weekly magazines such as "Shukan Shincho", "Shukan Asahi", and "Sunday Mainichi". Every other day or so I walk around the neighborhood for about an hour.

Yesterday I doubled that and walked for two hours because I felt like it.

. Therefore, the speed of walking is ： about 5km/h.

I'm going to Shikoku this May, so I need to do 20 ～ 30km walks a couple of times before that.

But it has been raining a lot recently, so I am not doing as well as I would like.

I've heard of Fitbit, but I forgot what it was, so I googled it

It's a watch like the Apple Watch that includes a physical condition tracker and pedometer.

It looks modern and useful for old people, but for me, a super cheapskate, it's "Not wanted? /Sachio Aoshima".


It has been too cold and rainy recently to go for long walks.

I am also getting older and the intervals between "small" ones are getting shorter, making it difficult to leave the house for long periods of time.

In Japanese cities, there seem to be many public toilets and I have no trouble, but here there are none at all.

There is a big park about 8 km away from my walking course, which has a nice restroom, but

it has recently been locked up, probably to prevent crime.

I have been living in the U.S. for too long, or have I become unfamiliar with the nuances of Japanese? I didn't know there was such a kanji as "Shushikkoku". At my age, I learned it for the first time.

I was living in NYC for about half a year when I was first sent to the U.S. as an expatriate, and in the fall of that year, a Japanese travel agency organized a * NYC - Boston, MA * overnight bus tour called "Autumn Foliage Viewing" for Japanese living in NY.

I joined that tour because I never had a chance to visit Boston, Massachusetts. Boston is famous for its museums and art galleries, but the bus also went to Prymouth, where the first European immigrants to the Americas are believed to have landed. It is also famous as Prymouth Rock, but it was nothing more than a large stone on the beach with "1620" carved on it. It has something in common with the Harimaya Bridge in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, which is one of the "Three Most Disappointing Places in Japan.
