Cash, huh?

and I also get points on my credit card and it reflects on my credit history.
use credit card as much as you can
and also conveniently send receipts by email to prevent unauthorized use
if your main is alco, cash is not a problem

avoid gas stations where you don't know much about them
Especially Cosco gas. You'll get knocking and the smog won't pass.

Unmanned rental bicycles and rental scooters BIRD would not have existed 20 years ago. You can leave them on the side of the road, unlock them with an app, pay for them, use them and ride them there and back.
Also, pay phones. I saw one and asked my kids if they knew this ？ and they said they had seen it in a movie.

I was an international student at the time and I was staying with a homestay family and the rent was $400 （ in a very safe, quiet residential area ）. I also had a part time job to help with living expenses. Part-time job was easy to do anywhere; since 9.11, it doesn't seem to be so easy for foreign students.
Gasoline was less than $1 a gallon. It seems that only rich people can study abroad in the U.S. now.

Although not related to check payment, there was a time when the airport shuttle bus between Van Nuys Airport and LAX was cash-only.
