I moved from California to Texas and back to California again. I don't want to go back again.

In my personal opinion, the houses are cheap, but property tax expensive. The houses are spacious, but they are hard to clean and there are hurricanes and tornadoes in some places, so it costs a lot of money to repair the houses. Public expenses such as car registers are expensive. Japanese goods are expensive. Airline tickets to Japan are expensive. Utilities are expensive. Gasoline is cheap, but there are many toll roads. It takes a long time to drive anywhere. Not many activities unless you belong to a church. Fire ants and mosquitoes are common and it is very hot, so there are not many children in the parks. The Japanese community is small and rumors abound. Meat is cheap and tasty, but eating out is expensive (about $15 for a bad ramen 10 years ago). Many people are politically and religiously biased, and southern hospitality is only on the surface. Medical care is well developed, with a medical center, but the cost of medical care and medicine is high.

I lived in a city, but there may be differences from place to place.
I would not recommend it unless you have a large family and need a big house.

Thanks Texan ！ That was very helpful. My husband is about to be transferred and I'm not sure what to do. I have the right to choose, so I'm just asking. I personally was getting tired of the Japanese-American community here too, but I guess it may be similar no matter where you go. It is hard for me to leave because I have to take my child to a remedial school, but sometimes it is hard to hear rumors and backbiting. I think California is blessed to have a great climate and be able to drive anywhere and get everything, so I'll think it over. Thank you very much for your help.
