There is a saying about the Awa Odori dance in Tokushima Prefecture ）, a country in Shikoku,

"Dancing fools and watching fools, if they are the same fools, dancing is no good...,"

but I, an Edokko, never liked this saying, somehow, without meaning it. I never liked it. However, after more than 10 years of ・ pilgrimage ・ walking pilgrimage in Shikoku, I gradually came to accept "Awa Odori" and stayed at a guest house in the town of Aratano, where the No. 22 Byodoji Temple is located, on my last walking pilgrimage in 2019. As it happened, that night was the summer festival of the town of Shinno, and after dinner we went out to the festival of that town.

Fireworks were going off in the night sky, and in the center of the town, the streets were lined with food stalls （ and it looked like a fair ）. I am completely warped back to my childhood about 70 years ago. In the central square, an unknown singer was singing a song over a loudspeaker, and then four women in Awa Odori costume started dancing the Awa Odori dance to the sound of a recorded flute, drums and bells. They were also participating in the "Renco" Awa Odori dance in the center of Tokushima City, and their dancing was on the board. Since then, I have become a fan of Awa Odori too. The Awa Odori festival held in the center of the city every year before Corona was a great success, but last week's Awa Odori, which was held for the first time after Corona, was lackluster. I guess it can't be helped.

The video is 50 minutes long, but it shows 23 sacred temples of the pilgrimage in Awa country. It is surprising that there are no people in the video at the temples with many worshippers, although there is a glimpse of a person at No.22 Byodo-ji Temple. This alone is a great effort. The temples must have been shot in a good season, and all of them have beautiful green foliage. It seems to have been recently renovated, and I wonder if it will be continued in Tosa, Iyo, and Sanuki Provinces in the future.
