At the command of the Mountain Goddess, my entire PC setup was moved from my room to a room that had been “tacked on” to the back yard.

While browsing the internet, I stumbled upon ・ The Ventures’ ♪ “Walk Don’t Run” ♪.

That brings back memories—apparently it was a hit in 1964. I think I was in high school back then. A show called “Electric Guitar Battle” was really popular on TV, and I used to be glued to it. But just watching wasn’t enough—I ended up going to a record&music store and buying the cheapest electric guitar that was all the rage at the time.

An electric guitar requires an amp (with a speaker), but I didn’t have enough allowance for one. Since I already had two DIY tube mono amps, I repurposed those instead.

The intro starts in A minor, and I kept repeating “ja-ja-jan, ja-ja-jan, ja-ja-jaaan” over and over, trying to memorize it.

The current temperature in the shade outside my house is 82°F (28°C).

82°F is on the cooler side; when it gets hot, it can sometimes exceed 100°F.

Well, here in inland LA, the temperatures are high, but the humidity is low, so it’s manageable to be outside.

Today, I was digging up the ground in the backyard to pull weeds. The type of weed is called crabgrass—it’s the toughest kind.

If I didn’t have ornamental plants growing there, I’d spray it with a powerful herbicide specifically designed for this weed, but I can’t do that.

I could hire a gardener, but since I’m retired and have all the time in the world, I should just take care of the yard myself—but I’m lazy at heart, so that doesn’t work out either.

I’m having a hard time with crabgrass. It blooms with small yellow flowers. I’m thinking of building a studio on half of my yard. Since I’d be covering it with concrete anyway, I might as well turn it into a rental unit. $ It’s ridiculous to hire someone at 20 an hour just to pull it out—it just grows back anyway. It was cold, so I didn’t check the garden, and before I knew it, it had spread like wildfire. I treat it as an hour of daily exercise.

I’ve been diligently killing crabgrass, so there isn’t much left.

I’m also tempted to expand half of the front yard into the living room.

Every week, a trash can big enough for two people gets filled with tree branches, grass, and other debris. I have 14 fruit trees. I regret digging up the lawn when I was younger to plant flowers and trees, but it’s really soothing.

Instead of skimping and trying to save the “Grand Cover” grass, I’m thinking of growing a small amount of it elsewhere and treating the entire area with crabgrass killer. I guess this will be a year-long project.

I am paying $80 for above service once a month. But I do vacuum. I also detail cleaning by myself. Cleaning lady spends total 2 hours which is $40 per hour. I do not need to vacuum but I want help her as much as I can . I want ask her to stay at least 3 hours but I feel sorry since it takes 40 minutes to come to my house.

Previous cleaning lady was charging $120 for 2 hours which is $60 per hour.

Since I am retired, I do cleaning by myself too. Fake plants, stove, 4 Japanese dolls glass cases, window glasses, kitchen fan, refrigerator, kitchen cabinet door, sink.., and so on. Endless!!!

Three days ago, on May 21, I "returned" to LAX because I am a US citizen. I usually fly ANA, but this was my first time to fly Zip Air. I think it was $ 510 for a round trip (same as other airlines, but I forgot the exact price due to my late age).

As for seat comfort, I think it was slightly narrower than JAL/ANA. I was born a full year before the end of the war and have a long torso and short legs, but when I try to sit comfortably, my knees just touch the back of the front seat.

Also, there is no monitor screen in the front, that is, on this side of the backrest of the front seat. If you want to watch movies, you have to bring your own Laptop or IPad. My wife was watching a recorded drama on the IPad, while I was listening to music with the earphones she lent me. The earphones are tiny ones that go in your ears.

As an overall evaluation, I have the impression that it is not "cheap or bad" but "cheap so this is what you get". I recommend it to those who want to keep the round-trip fee low.

Most of this trip to Japan was also spent in Tokyo.

We went to Kaminarimon-dori in Asakusa to buy sweatshirts with hiragana characters on them as souvenirs, especially for Segare and Totsan, both of whom are of Totsan age.

However, it was the day of the annual Sanja Festival in Asakusa. So, the Nakamise street was so crowded that foreign tourists and others could not walk there properly.

It was also lunch time and all the diners and restaurants were full. Finally, I found a small restaurant and peeked in, only to find that a couple of oriental tourists had just finished eating and were leaving, so I was lucky to get in.

I wonder what was on the menu. I'm too late in life to remember. I have a vague memory of eating cold tokoroten as well. Even that simple thing was served with nostalgia.

I remember eating kanten and tokoroten.

Whether by foot, bicycle, car, or any other means of transportation, a pilgrimage to any of the 88 sacred sites in Shikoku is called an "ohenro" (pilgrimage).

Since 2009, every time I travel to Japan for a week ～ I visit Shikoku for about 10 days and walk around the 88 sacred sites on my own. I have been visiting Shikoku in parts, which is called "kiri-uchi", and visiting all 88 sacred sites in one trip, which is called "tsumi-uchi". Over the past 10 years, the number of "foreign" pilgrims from Japan has increased considerably. The walking pilgrimage in Shikoku is probably the best way to immerse oneself in "Japan" itself. Quite a few foreign pilgrims seem to have experienced the "Camino de Compostera San Tiago" （ in Spain, ） I think this is correct.

But now that I am 82 years old, I am starting to show some signs of old age, and my wife has told me to stop going on the Shikoku walking pilgrimage alone.
