Our Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget

Everyone is tuned into the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and Long Beach is represented. Not only Long Beach public figures like Snoop Dogg and Billie Jean King have made appearances, but next week Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson will also attend the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games to lead the City of Long Beach’s delegation along with other City officials. The insights gained from this experience will play a crucial role in the City's preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where Long Beach will serve as the Venue City to host the largest number of sporting events besides the hosting City of Los Angeles. This week we announced the Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 25) Budget. The $3.6 billion Proposed FY 25 Budget includes the City Manager’s proposed budget, the Mayor's Recommendations to the City Council and the Proposed FY 25 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). The proposed budget focuses on key areas of investments identified in the Long Beach Strategic Vision 2030, among other critical priorities. City of Long Beach Unveils Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 Budget This week the City of Long Beach unveiled its Proposed Fiscal Year 2025 (FY 25) Budget. Participate in the Budget Conversation by Attending Community Meetings The City of Long Beach is underway with the FY 25 Budget development process. We want you to join the conversation and share your feedback on the proposed budget at one of the upcoming community meetings. Four in-person community meetings will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the following: Wednesday, Aug. 7 – Recreation Park, Community Center (4900 E 7th St.) Monday, Aug. 12 – Cabrillo High School, Small Gymnasium (2001 Santa Fe Ave.) Thursday, Aug. 15 – Ramona Park, Activity Room/Community Center (3301 E 65th St.) Monday, Aug. 19 – Billie Jean King Main Library, Teen Space (200 W. Click here Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine to Offer a Variety of Recreation Classes This Fall Registration for new and existing recreation classes offered by the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) begins Monday, Aug. 5, 2024. Fall is right around the corner and PRM is offering over 700 activities catering to all ages and taking place throughout Long Beach. Enjoy special interest subjects as well as classes in arts, music, nature, fitness, sports leagues and more available to residents ranging from preschool to older adults. Click here Parks, Recreation and Marine to Induct Three New Members into Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame The Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame will welcome three new members – Larry Benson, Jeff Evans and Brett Lederer – during a public ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024. The Long Beach Golf Hall of Fame was created by the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) in 1996 to recognize individuals who “left their mark on Golf in Long Beach.” Learn more Long Beach Youth Invited to Apply for the City’s Youth Advisory Council The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) is now accepting applications for the Office of Youth Development’s Youth Advisory Council. The council, now in its third year, is a body of 11 young people who help ensure authentic youth-led engagement in the design, oversight and implementation of the Youth and Emerging Adults Strategic Plan, the Measure US Youth Fund, annual Youth Summit and other systems of positive youth development. Learn more Scholarships for Childcare Tuition! The Long Beach Early Learning Hub (aka “The Hub”), powered by The Mayor’s Fund for Long Beach, proudly announces its Back-to-School Boost Scholarship Program, offering $385,000 to help families with childcare costs. Financial assistance of up to $3,600 for childcare/preschool costs will be awarded per child to families with children ages 0-5 years old based on highest need on a rolling basis throughout August. The Hub and Back to School Boost scholarships were made possible thanks to support from the Long Beach Recovery Act and the Munzer Foundation. Learn more City of Long Beach to Study Several Policy Changes to Help Boost Housing Production The City of Long Beach is excited to host a series of Housing Policy Forums focused on gathering input and informing the community of numerous housing policy and zoning initiatives currently underway. These initiatives will encourage and grow housing production, increase housing affordability, reduce tenant displacement and attract innovative developments in high-resource areas. Read more City of Long Beach Launches Inclusive Business Navigator Microgrant Program The City of Long Beach, through the Long Beach Recovery Act, is launching microgrants to support startups and micro-entrepreneurs with access to small amounts of capital to launch or grow their business. The Program, led by the Economic Development Department, will distribute $2,500 and $5,000 grants to qualified businesses, with up to $80,000 in total funding. This distinction reinforces that standards are maintained in audits of City operations that improve services, ensure tax dollars are being used as intended, and maximize cost savings.
