Be informed and register for TorranceAlerts today.   Disaster Preparedness We activated the Emergency Operations Center in response to the unprecedented February storms. With a concerted effort across all City Departments, we are diligently managing the challenges brought by these extreme weather conditions. READ THE PRESS RELEASE February Storm Update Tuesday morning, a water main break resulted in mud and debris overflowing portions of Vista Largo and Newton Street in South Torrance. In response, our dedicated #TeamTorrance has worked tirelessly the last few days to clear the affected area. City workers are checking surrounding areas to ensure the safety of our residents. VIEW TORRANCE IN ACTION   WHAT'S NEW   Mayor George K. Chen Proclaims February 2024 as Black History Month On February 6th, Mayor George K. Chen signed a Proclamation during City Council honoring February 2024 as Black History Month in the City of Torrance. Dr. Mia McNulty, President of the NAACP Torrance-Carson Branch, accepted the Proclamation. VIEW THE PROCLAMATION     Public Works Route Reviews In accordance with SB 1383 regulations, the City and its contractors will conduct random visual audits of curbside refuse, recycling, and organics carts. These audits will allow us to provide real-time, actionable feedback through cart tags on audited carts. Importantly, these inspections are purely educational, and NO enforcement actions will be taken. The insights gained from these route reviews will assist us in developing educational outreach material aimed at improving proper recycling practices. The recruits of the Torrance Fire Department's "Class of 2024" gather for Orientation Day at Torrance Fire Department Station 2. Fire recruits are trained in the strategies and tactics specific to Torrance, the South Bay, and California. They will learn how to operate with each other as well as outside agencies.
