Second Health ・ Fair

The Japanese American Medical Association for the Aging and the Japanese American Medical Association (JAMA) will hold a Health Fair for the Japanese American community this October 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. ～ 2:00 p.m. at the Merinole Japanese American Catholic Center in Little Tokyo.

The Nikkei Health ・ Fair has been held through 38 years of steady work by the Taisho Club. The fair has continued with the help of doctors, nurses, other medical professionals, and many volunteers, and has at times attracted over 800 attendees.

The event offers free consultations with a variety of medical professionals, blood tests, and flu shots at a minimal cost. The results of the blood test will be available two weeks later and can be explained in either Japanese or English.

Over the years, the Nikkei Health ・ Fair has become a treasured tradition in the Nikkei community. Past events have featured specialists in internal medicine, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, urology, general surgery, podiatry, gastroenterology, orthopedics, rheumatology, chiropractic and massage, psychiatry, dentistry, acupuncture, and more.

Many Japanese American seniors, especially those who have difficulty getting to the doctor's office, greatly appreciated this event that brought together specialists from various fields. They were able to resolve their daily questions and concerns in one place. Interpretation was provided for those participants who could only speak Japanese.

The Health ・ Fair, such a valuable tradition in the Nikkei community, was interrupted when the Taisho Club disbanded due to aging members.

The "Association for the Protection of the Elderly", whose goal is to "rebuild Nikkei senior citizen facilities and promote the health and welfare of Nikkei seniors", decided to take over the Nikkei Health ・ Fair, in cooperation with the Nikkei Medical Association. The Nikkei Health Fair will be co-sponsored by the Japanese American Medical Association.

The Japanese American Health Care Association and the Japanese American Medical Association plan to continue this wonderful tradition that has developed over the years and continues today ・ into the future.
