Friendly reminder to recycle your holiday tree through our Treecycling program that provides Long Beach residents with 12 convenient drop-off locations for disposal of live holiday trees free of charge from Dec. 26, 2023, through Jan. 12, 2024. If you are unable to drop off your tree, participate in the citywide Treecycling pick-up day on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson Hosts State of the City Address Tuesday, January 9, 2024 Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson will deliver the 2024 State of the City Address at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, in the Terrace Theater. The 2024 address will commence with an inaugural “Youth State of the City” highlighting Long Beach Youth. The Youth State of the City will feature remarks by youth leaders overviewing the City's inaugural Youth Advocacy Day, Youth Participatory Budgeting, the Annual Youth Festival, the Youth Advisory Council, and other youth-centered projects for the upcoming year. Click here City of Long Beach to Offer Annual Treecycling Program ICYMI: Our Public Works Department is offering its Holiday Tree Recycling Program, also known as Treecycling. This annual program provides Long Beach residents with 12 convenient drop-off locations for disposal of live holiday trees free of charge from Dec. 26, 2023, through Jan. 12, 2024. Residents with City-serviced refuse accounts who are unable to drop off their holiday tree may participate in the citywide Treecycling pick-up day on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024. City customers must place their tree where recycling is normally collected by 7 a.m. on the pickup day. Learn more City of Long Beach Invites Public to Share Their Priorities for the 2025 City Budget at Upcoming Community Meetings The City of Long Beach invites the community to participate in the City’s fiscal year 2025 budget development process by sharing their service priorities at one of the upcoming community budget meetings or by completing the Long Beach Budget Priority Survey. Learn more Long Beach’s Mobile Access Centers to Continue Homeless Services Outreach Throughout January We are continuing the deployment of our Mobile Access Centers (MAC) in select Long Beach areas weekdays throughout January, with new service locations in the Downtown area. The MAC vehicles significantly lower barriers to providing case management services and other resources for people experiencing homelessness, as it allows the City’s Homeless Services Bureau outreach staff to conduct meaningful engagement and relationship building and start the intake process right on the street. Click here Participate in Long Beach's Donation Drive to Support People Experiencing Homelessness We are still hosting our donation drive to collect a variety of essential physical items to provide to community members experiencing homelessness. We encourage everyone who is able to join the effort by donating needed items. Read more City Continues to Accept Applications for Visual Improvement Program Grant The application for the Visual Improvement Program (VIP) Grant is still available! This will support local businesses impacted by crime and vandalism on or after October 1, 2022. Eligible businesses can receive $1,500 to cover storefront repairs, boarding costs, insurance deductibles and business operating expenses. Read more Long Beach Expands First Time Homebuyer Assistance The City of Long Beach is announcing an expansion of the City’s First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program that now enables income-eligible residents citywide to apply and increases the grant amount from $20,000 up to $25,000. The expansion of this program, which is for first-time, first-generation homebuyers, is intended to enable more Long Beach residents to qualify and receive assistance to purchase their first home in the city. Click here City of Long Beach Offers Financial Incentives for Historic Property Preservation The Long Beach Community Development Department (Department) is opening the 2024 application cycle for its Mills Act Property Tax Abatement Program (Mills Act), an economic incentive program for designated historic properties in the city. The Mills Act application and guide is available to the public on the Department website now through Friday, March 1, 2024. Click here We launched a community survey for our Public Mural Program, an entity of the City of Long Beach's Creative Grants Program that is funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act and administered by the Arts Council of Long Beach (ArtsLB). Now through Feb. 2, 2024, members of the community are invited to submit a community survey, available in Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog, to provide their input on the Public Mural Program, including potential locations and themes such as cultural, health and wellness, entertainment, and Long Beach landmarks and history, so that the murals can reflect the local community. Additional information regarding the survey can be found on the ArtsLB website. Click here Long Beach Pledge Guaranteed Income Pilot Program to Expand with Second Cohort Later this month, the City of Long Beach will open applications to expand our guaranteed income pilot program, known as the Long Beach Pledge, to include a second cohort of 200 additionally funded households. This expansion will be available to households with children living under the federal poverty level in five Long Beach zip codes. Those selected for the Long Beach Pledge will receive $500 a month for 12 months. Click here Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine to Offer a Variety of Free Group Recreation Activities at Downtown Long Beach’s Lincoln Park The City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will offer free group recreation activities in the Downtown area at Lincoln Park which started Jan. 2, and until further notice. Activities range in interest and age. Click here Adopt a Pet From our Animal Care Services Shelter New Year, new fur-ever beginnings! Start the year off right and adopt a new pet this month for only $24 from our Animal Care Services Department. Meet all of our adoptable animals at 7700 E Spring St., from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Click here Long Beach Airport Roadway Loop Improvements Begin January 8, 2024 The new year will ring in infrastructure improvements at Long Beach Airport (LGB) as the Terminal Roadway Improvements Project begins the evening of Jan. 8, 2024. The finished project will result in improved vehicular and passenger flow and additional enhancements for those with mobility challenges.
