*Dear Manhattan Beach Community,*

The safety and preparedness of our community are top priorities for the City of Manhattan Beach. We are excited to announce that we will be participating in the Great California ShakeOut [ https://www.shakeout.org/california/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] on *Thursday, October 17th, 2024, at 10:17 AM.** *

The Great California ShakeOut [ https://www.shakeout.org/california/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] is an annual statewide earthquake preparedness drill that helps communities like ours practice how to protect ourselves during a major earthquake. At 10:17 AM, the entire city will engage in this drill, including a brief evacuation drill at City Hall to simulate a real-life response to a large earthquake. *City Hall will be closed for approximately 30 minutes or less during the evacuation portion of the drill from 10:17 AM – 10:47 AM.* 

We encourage all residents to take part in this important exercise and to use this opportunity to review your own preparedness plans. Here are a few steps you can take: 


* *City Hall Closure:* City Hall will be closed for approximately 30 minutes from 10:17 AM to 10:47 AM (PDT) during the evacuation portion of the drill, simulating a real-life evacuation scenario following a large earthquake.

* *Safety Reminder:* Remember, if an earthquake strikes, always DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.
