Here's The Latest

April is Earth Month

As April approaches, so does Earth Month. The City of Hermosa Beach will celebrate Earth Month with a variety of events and programs aimed at promoting sustainability in our community.

To kick off the Earth Month celebrations, the City, in partnership with Athens Services, will host the *Spring Paper Shredding and Compost Giveaway* event on Saturday, April 5th, from 8:00 AM to noon at the Community Center. Residents are invited to drive in through the Pier Avenue entrance, where they can have their important documents shredded on-site and pick up a bag or two of free compost. Please remember to bring your own containers for the compost and note that paper shredding is limited to three boxes per vehicle. Residents with questions can contact the Cityโ€™s Environmental Programs Coordinator at dkrauss@hermosabeach.gov.

Street Sweeping Signage Changes

Please be advised that Public Works crews will soon adjust the times on โ€œNo Parkingโ€ signs across the City. These signage changes will reduce the current restricted 4-hour street sweeping parking windows to 3 hours. This update, requested by City Council, is intended to help improve parking availability in the community. Please be sure to check the updated signs for the newly reduced  time restrictions. Please contact City staff at 310-750-3603 with any questions or concerns.

Pier Avenue Construction

On Monday, April 7th, Public Works will kick off a project to repave Pier Avenue. The paving project will involve grinding, repaving, restriping, and some concrete work. The overall construction is expected to take approximately one month to complete but will be broken into phases to minimize disruptions. The actual paving work is only expected to take a few days. Two-way traffic will be maintained thought the ensure process to ensure customers and deliveries can continue accessing our businesses.  A dedicated project website is available and will be updated regularly throughout the project with detailed schedule and phasing information. For the latest project updates, visit the City's website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/public-works/projects/street-improvements?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

Parking Permit Update

A friendly reminder to residents that the sale of 2025-2026 residential parking permits will begin on April 1st, 2025. Permit sales were slightly delayed allowing the City to complete upgrades to its online platform for a better and more accessible user experience. The current 2024-2025 permits will remain valid through May 18, 2025, with enforcement beginning on May 19, 2025. For updates, residents are encouraged to visit the Cityโ€™s website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/i-want-to/apply-for/parking-permit-residential?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

Cesar Chavez Day

In observance of Cesar Chavez Day on Monday, March 31st, City Hall and the Community Center offices will reopen for in-person services on Tuesday, April 1st. Street sweeping and  Pacific Coast Highway parking restrictions will be suspended, though metered parking will remain in effect. Construction activities will continue as usual, and trash collection will proceed as scheduled.
