Día De Los Muertos Community Altar at the El Segundo Public Library

The El Segundo Public Library invites the public to contribute towards the Community Altar in celebration of Día De Los Muertos.

Día De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a two-day holiday on November 1st and 2nd that reunites the living and dead. Families create ofrendas (offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of those being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and partake in the celebrations.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to add photos, flowers, or notes to the altar to honor a loved one.

The El Segundo Public Library is located at 111 West Mariposa Avenue, El Segundo, CA 90245. Please visit the altar during Library hours:


* Monday - Thursday, 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
* Friday - Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
* Sunday - Closed
