Here's The Latest

Holiday Announcements

The City will observe the Christmas holiday on Wednesday, December 25 and New Years Day on Wednesday, January 1.  All City facilities, including the Community Center and recreational courts, will reopen for full in-person services and regular business hours the day following each holiday.

Street sweeping and Pacific Coast Highway parking will not be enforced on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, but all other parking regulations will remain in effect. As a friendly reminder, our complimentary holiday parking in the downtown area will conclude this year on December 25.

Trash collection will not take place on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. As a result, the rest of that week’s pickups will be postponed by one day. For example, if your trash is typically picked up on Friday, it will now be picked up on Saturday.

Additionally, construction activities are prohibited on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

As always, the Hermosa Beach Police Department and Public Works Departments will remain available over the holidays. You may contact the City with any issues by calling the non-emergency Police Department phone line at (310) 524-2750.

Vacation Check Program

Residents may request complimentary exterior checks from our Volunteers in Policing (VIP) Program and/or Police Officers through the Police Department’s Vacation Check Program [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/police-department/not-alone-program-alzheimer-checklist-vacation-house-checks?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]. Please submit your request five days prior to the first requested home check date.

Holiday Tree Recycling

Give your Christmas tree a second life by participating in the City’s Christmas Tree Recycling program. Christmas trees can be picked up for recycling on your normal trash collection day or dropped off at a special collection bin located on Valley Drive, north of 8th Street. This special pickup and large bin placement will begin the day after Christmas and continue through the second week of January.  For pick-up at your home, please place your trees on the curb next to your trash containers so it can be collected.  Whether using the pick-up or the drop off option, please remove the stand, nails, ornaments, lights and tinsel. All trees, except for those that are flocked or coated with fire retardant, will be recycled. If you miss the opportunity for holiday tree recycling, you may still cut up your tree and place the pieces in your green cart for recycling.

Accessible Beach Mats

The City has removed the accessible beach mats on 2nd Street and 22nd Street for the winter months to align with LA County Beach and Harbor’s best practices. The 11th Street beach mat will remain and be maintained through the winter. There will be a slight reduction in the length of the mat to protect the end from potential storm surges. The accessible beach mats on 2nd and 22nd Street are expected to return April 2025.

Performance Management Dashboards

The City of Hermosa Beach is proud to announce the visual digitization of the static departmental activity reports on the City’s website using new and interactive dashboards. The dashboards cover all departments and include historical data to show topics ranging from permits issued, parking citations paid, crime statistics, etc. The City released these dashboards to increase access and promote an open data culture for residents and businesses to better view key performance indicators. Each dashboard is interactive and can be filtered by you the user. For more information, please visit City’s website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/monthly-department-activity-reports?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

South Bay Energy and Climate Recognition Program

The South Bay Energy and Climate Recognition Program (SBECRP) recognizes cities in the South Bay for their efforts in pursuing energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability related tasks. Cities receive recognition for completing activities that make strides towards sustainability in three categories: Climate Action & Adaptation, Education & Engagement, and Technical Assistance.

This year the City of Hermosa Beach achieved Silver Level for its coordination with the Clean Power Alliance, its energy benchmarking program, and for supporting outreach efforts related to energy efficiency. These efforts align with the City’s Sustainability Plan and the Sustainability and Conservation Element of PLAN Hermosa, the City’s General Plan.
