City of Long Beach News: 🏎 Preparing for Two Race Car Weekends in Long Beach!

The next two weekends Long Beach will be hosting two world-class racing events on the streets of Downtown Long Beach. This weekend is Formula Drift happening Friday, April 12 thru Saturday, April 13. We have a list of road closures below. Next weekend is the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach happening April 19-21. To kick-off the amazing weekend the City of Long Beach, in partnership with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, is hosting the 2024 Motorsports Walk of Fame, where honorees Katherine Legge and Takuma Sato will be inducted during a public ceremony and you are all invited! Our Long Beach Airport (LGB) also announced that as progress on the Terminal Roadway Improvements Project continues, travelers are advised to expect a reduced number of lanes at the pick-up and drop-off area in front of the Historic Terminal from Monday, April 15 through the end of June. Katherine Legge and Takuma Sato to be Inducted into Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame The City of Long Beach, in partnership with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach, recently announced the honorees for the 2024 Motorsports Walk of Fame, Katherine Legge and Takuma Sato. Legge, a trailblazer among women in motorsports, will be the first female honoree. The honorees will be inducted during a public ceremony taking place Thursday, April 18, ahead of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, April 19-21. Click here City Issues Traffic Impacts in Downtown Long Beach for 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach In preparation for the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, taking place Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21, there will be several street closures impacting the Downtown Long Beach area beginning Wednesday, April 17 and lasting until 5 p.m. on Monday, April 22. Below is a listing of street closures and alternative access points, when applicable, by date. Times are approximate and subject to change. Click here Let LBT take you to the Grand Prix! Long Beach Transit features more than 30 bus routes and thousands of stops in Long Beach, Lakewood, Signal Hill and surrounding communities with fast, reliable service and comfortable buses. Or enjoy a boat ride! LBT’s AquaLink (Alamitos Bay Landing) or AquaBus (Queen Mary Dock) will pick you up and drop you off near the race-front straightaway. Click here Long Beach Airport Road Improvements Require Temporary Lane Closures As progress on the Long Beach Airport (LGB) Terminal Roadway Improvements Project continues, travelers are advised to expect a reduced number of lanes at the pick-up and drop-off area in front of the Historic Terminal from Monday, April 15 through the end of June. The pick-up and drop-off area is for active loading and unloading only and will be limited to the two lanes closest to the Historic Terminal. The center median and two adjacent lanes to the east will be closed. Click here Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine to Offer Summer Day Camps for Youth, June 17 through August 23 Our Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) will offer Summer Aquatics and Park Day Camps from June 17 through August 23, 2024. Registration is open now online at LBParks.org. Youth ages 5 to 12 will enjoy games, crafts, physical fitness, enrichment activities and more. Summer Park Camps will operate Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., for those enrolled in extended care. The weekly cost is $100 for regular day and $125 for extended care. Click here Participate in Long Beach's Donation Drive to Support People Experiencing Homelessness We are still hosting our donation drive to collect a variety of essential physical items to provide to community members experiencing homelessness. We encourage everyone who is able to join the effort by donating needed items. Read more City of Long Beach Announces Inaugural Youth Day in the LBC for People Ages 13 to 26 The City of Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Office of Youth Development announces Youth Day in the LBC, an exciting new event that will bring together youth ages 13 to 26 and empower them to connect around youth advocacy and youth resources. Youth Day in the LBC will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, at Cabrillo High School. Learn more City to Host Annual Celebration of the Young Child in Downtown Long Beach The City of Long Beach will host the fifth annual Celebration of the Young Child from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Downtown Long Beach. This free event provides hands-on activities and showcases vendors who provide services and resources for children up to 8 years old. Click here City of Long Beach Requests Information from Food Vending Cart Manufacturers The City of Long Beach has released a Request for Information (RFI) to better understand the market landscape for mobile food vending carts, including types of carts, pricing and fulfillment timelines. The information gathered will help the City prepare for the second phase of its sidewalk vending support program, Sidewalk to Success, which supports sidewalk vending entrepreneurs to align with the City’s recently approved Sidewalk Vending Ordinance. Food cart manufacturers and vendors are encouraged to provide their information by following the instructions on the City’s vendor portal, Long Beach Buys, by April 19, 2024, at 1 p.m. Specific details related to submission instructions are available on the Long Beach Buys website. Click here City of Long Beach Launches Sidewalk to Success Program to Support Business Development The City of Long Beach, through the Long Beach Recovery Act, is funding a sidewalk vending support program, “Sidewalk to Success,” to help ease the financial burden for small businesses in the first year of the City’s recently approved Sidewalk Vending Ordinance currently in effect. Read more Long Beach Expands First Time Homebuyer Assistance The City of Long Beach has expanded the City’s First-Time Homebuyer Assistance Program that now enables income-eligible residents citywide to apply and increases the grant amount from $20,000 up to $25,000. The expansion of this program, which is for first-time, first-generation homebuyers, is intended to enable more Long Beach residents to qualify and receive assistance to purchase their first home in the city. Click here Long Beach Public Library Celebrates 10 Years of Creativity and Innovation at The Studio Makerspace Our Long Beach Public Library is thrilled to announce the anniversary celebration of The Studio Makerspace with a new exhibition, “A 10-Year Retrospective of Art and Maker Innovation," at the Billie Jean King Main Library. Launched in April of 2014, The Studio has become a vibrant hub of creativity and innovation, serving as a dynamic resource for artists and makers of all ages in the Long Beach community. Click here City of Long Beach Celebrates Earth Month with Events and Educational Campaigns Throughout April The City of Long Beach is celebrating Earth Month by hosting a series of fun, free and family-friendly events, workshops and volunteer opportunities for residents throughout April. Festivities will highlight a range of sustainable topics such as supporting local wildlife, reducing waste and stewarding community spaces. Earth Day began in 1970 to bring attention to environmental issues and has since spread to monthlong events and celebrations around the world every April. This year’s Earth Month activities and events are organized around the 2024 theme, Planet vs. Plastics. Click here DTLB Art Walk: Celebrate Downtown Edition On Saturday, April 13, from 4 to 9 PM, Downtown Long Beach will be home to a fusion of creativity, community, and celebration during the quarterly art walk, and third in the series. Similar to previous DTLB art walks, the effort is a collaboration between the Downtown Long Beach Alliance, Arts Council for Long Beach, LBMA Downtown, Grey LB, and Studio One Eleven. This program will meld the refreshed Art Walk experience with the cherished Celebrate Downtown festivities which have taken place annually since 2012. This merger of programs will blend the best of Downtown Long Beach’s vibrant arts scene and its spirit of community, and will include artist showcases, DJs, performances, and more.
