Culver City Police Department Statement on Immigration Enforcement
Culver City Police Statement on Immigration Enforcement
The Culver City Police Department is committed to creating a safe and welcoming Culver City for all. We recognize that safe communities rely on effective law enforcement services built on trust and cooperation between community members, and the officers dedicated to their protection. We want to ensure that fear of immigration status does not deter anyone from engaging with our officers, especially when they are victims or witnesses of crime. Every member of our community deserves the right to feel safe and supported.
In that vein, we would like to address some inquiries we have received regarding our role in immigration enforcement. On March 27, 2017, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2017-R025 [ https://www.culvercitypd.org/files/assets/police/v/1/documents/17-03-27__reso-2017-r025-declaring-culver-city-a-santuary-city.pdf ] declaring the City of Culver City to be a sanctuary city for all its residents regardless of immigration status. Further, the Culver City Police Department is bound by state law California Values Act/SB 54 [ https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180SB54 ], which prohibits the sharing of information with immigration authorities and the participation in enforcing immigration laws (with rare exceptions for violent felonies or court orders). Along with following state law, the Culver City Police Department has robust policies that strictly prohibit the enforcement of immigration laws and the sharing of data or information with immigration authorities.
For further information, please contact Culver City Police Department Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza at (310) 253-6120 [ tel:3102536120 ] or email jennifer.atenza@culvercity.org.

Spark Healing Through Conversation:
How the Middle East Crisis Affects Me
Serious tensions and divisions have come to light within Culver City related to the ongoing conflict/war/crisis in the Middle East. The Equity and Human Relations Advisory Committee is convening a courageous conversation where our community members can have a safe space to feel truly heard and take the first steps towards healing the divisions in our city. Please join us and Facilitators Zarha Sakkejha and Ben Ginsburg for this conversation on Tuesday, February 25th at 6 PM.
*The Courageous Conversation will focus on:*
* Addressing people’s frustrations.
* Allowing people to express what is important to them, why, and what they want others to know.
* Confronting and reducing/being aware of our own biases.
* Creating safety and healing for everyone in the community.
* How to create better personal relationships & feel more compassion for each other.
* Offer suggestions for next steps and resources.
The conversation will take place at the Culver City Senior Center in B45 and B47. You can learn more about the event and how to sign up to participate on the City's website. [ https://www.culvercity.org/Events-directory/Community-Conversations-Spark-Healing-Through-Conversation ]

Culver CityBus Honors Rosa Parks on Transit Equity Day
Celebrated on Rosa Parks’ birthday Culver CityBus proudly observed Transit Equity Day every February 4th—a day dedicated to honoring a civil rights icon and reaffirming our commitment to accessible, inclusive transit for all.
On every bus, the first front forward seat was reserved in Rosa Parks’ honor. Each reserved seat featured a commemorative photo and a rose serving as a lasting reminder of her impact. This gesture underscores our belief that transit equity is a fundamental civil right and reinforces our commitment to creating a safe, welcoming environment for every rider.
In keeping with our community-focused values, the roses displayed on our buses during the celebration were donated to the Culver City Senior Center after their display period.

Pedestrian Safety: 4-Way Walk introduced in Downtown Culver City
Downtown Culver City now features a new pedestrian signal timing operation at the intersection of Culver Blvd and Main St, designed to enhance safety and minimize conflicts between pedestrians and drivers. The innovative signal design stops all vehicular traffic and activates the “WALK” signal for all four crosswalks simultaneously, giving pedestrians exclusive right-of-way to cross any leg of the intersection while vehicles remain at a red light.
This improvement reflects Culver City’s ongoing commitment to creating safer streets for all modes of travel, and the City remains dedicated to enhancing mobility and accessibility for the entire community.
