The 2024 election is just around the corner, and we've got all of the information you need leading up to the November 5 election day.

The City of El Segundo has three City Council seats and one City Clerk seat up for election on November 5. Candidate information can be found on the City's website [ https://www.elsegundo.org/government/departments/city-clerk/election?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].


* *Vote-by-Mail* *Ballots* - Complete and return your ballot in the mail by November 5, 2024, no postage necessary.
* *Ballot Drop Box* - Complete and submit your ballot in the drop box on the corner of Holly Avenue and Main Street. Dial-A-Ride to Vote
November 2 - 5

Ride to Vote

Need a ride to vote? No problem!  El Segundo’s Dial-a-Ride with Lyft program will be providing rides to voting locations in El Segundo from November 2 - 5. This is free for El Segundo residents, 55 and older or those with disabilities, and provides door-to-door transportation. You just need an active Rec ID. Please call the Joslyn Center at 310-524-2705 to schedule your ride.

Via El Segundo Connect

The City of El Segundo is proud to announce the launch of “El Segundo Connect [ https://elsegundoca.qscend.com/311?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ],” an upgraded online citizen reporting tool designed to improve access to City services and streamline communication between the community and local government. In a major step forward, El Segundo Connect is available online and as a mobile app, marking the City's first-ever app.

El Segundo Connect replaces “Report an Issue” on the City’s website. With this new user-friendly platform, users can quickly and easily report non-emergency issues like potholes, graffiti, and much more, from their computer or smartphone at anytime. The streamlined process prompts users to select the type of issue, add details, attach photos or documents, and provide a location. With just a few clicks, users can submit service requests directly to City staff for quick action.

Community Clean-Up Day

Join us and the El Segundo Blue Butterfly Conservancy for our Community Clean Up Day this Saturday, November 2 from 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at the 660 block of West Imperial Ave. 

Volunteers will participate in simple clean up and improvement projects around the park. Please be prepared to get dirty and wear closed toed shoes. All supplies and refreshments will be provided. We'll be showing a PG-rated movie about dinosaurs that runs approximately one hour and 24 minutes. Enjoy snacks and get creative with crafts throughout the movie.

*Switch It Up! Teen Gaming Program* - Calling all teens! Join us on November 19 at 3:00 p.m. in the Sue Carter Room of the El Segundo Public Library for an epic afternoon of gaming, fun, and snacks! Bring your friends and your Nintendo Switch! We’ll also have other consoles set up, so you can try out a variety of video games. Challenge your friends & meet new gamers! Toys for Tots Toy Drive

This holiday season the El Segundo Police Department is once again partnering with the United States Marine Corps to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children during the holidays.

The Marine Toys for Tots Program was started by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to help bring the joy of the holidays and to send a message of hope through the gift of a new toy. *Through* *Thursday, December 5* we will have two locations where you can donate in person. Spark of Love Toy Drive Starts November 11

The Spark of Love toy drive, the largest community toy drive in the nation, returns to El Segundo. This special community campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for under-served children. El Segundo Takes Flight at LA Tech Week: Connecting Investors withe CEOs to Drive Economic Growth

On October 14, the City of El Segundo, in partnership with Sidebar Summit, hosted an exclusive CEO Roundtable during its inaugural participation in LA Tech Week. The “Lightspeed, SNR Capital, Foley Roundtable” held at Mantis VC in Santa Monica, featured CEOs, elected officials, and visionary thought leaders from the Silicon Valley and El Segundo.

The high-profile interactive roundtable ignited inspiring conversations about the next generation of innovation in AI, aerospace, and energy, as well as strategic approaches to private investment opportunities, and government collaborations aimed at bolstering the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

CEO Mark Groden of Skyryse emphasized the City's status as a regional economic powerhouse, especially in the tech sector, sharing "When you’re looking for the talent to ship an aerospace product, something that’s been certified by the FAA, there’s nowhere better in the entire world, in my opinion, than El Segundo, California. *Two-Week Concrete Improvements Project *construction has begun, and is expected to be completed by November 8, 2024. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

*CDBG ADA Curb Ramp Installation Project* construction will begin on November 6 and is anticipated to be completed by December 20, 2024. The project will remove and replace non-compliant curb ramps or install truncated domes on curb ramps. Hyperion Update

Below are the most recent updates on the situation with the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, which is owned and operated by the City of Los Angeles [ https://lacity.gov?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ]


* The City has received a draft proposal from Dr. Stenstrom on his advisory role to the City regarding Hyperion. Staff is evaluating the proposal to ensure the scope of work matches City objectives and desired outcomes.
* On October 22, the City submitted a letter to AQMD, highlighting additional concerns to be addressed at the next AQMD hearing board meeting on November 19, 2024.
* Hyperion reports that there is a recent, large bloom of red algae present in the waters, from Santa Monica Bay to Marina del Rey. These algae can cause odors, and can stay anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months, depending on the wind factor. Odors resulting from this red algae are not the result of activity at Hyperion and they may not be entirely alleviated by odor mitigation measures in place at the plant.
