CDC in Cameroon: 20 Years of Public Health Impact
Since 2004, CDC has provided extensive support to the Government of Cameroon, contributing to significant progress in reducing illness and strengthening the country’s systems to prevent, detect, and respond to complex public health challenges. These efforts have improved health outcomes, enhanced coordination in the health sector, and boosted Cameroon’s capacity to respond to health emergencies.

Key CDC contributions include supporting the Government of Cameroon in:
Training nearly 2,000 disease detectives, equipping every region and district in Cameroon with at least five field epidemiologists
Serving over 400,000 people living with HIV, representing about 95% of people receiving HIV treatment in Cameroon
Establishing a National Public Health Laboratory, National Public Health Emergency Operations Center, five internationally accredited laboratories, and a national external quality assurance program for HIV testing
