Parks Master Plan Joint Meeting

On Tuesday, October 29th at 6:00 pm, our Parks & Recreation and Public Works Commissions will co-host a joint meeting to present the City’s Parks Master Plan. This plan was developed with community input and will guide the direction and development of our City's recreation spaces and facilities for the next 30 years. The meeting agenda, with participation details, are posted [ https://pub-hermosabeach.escribemeetings.com/Meeting.aspx?Agenda=Agenda&Id=9b4ed0ed-8c7e-40b7-8d97-6d50ede89d98&lang=English&utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ], and members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

*"Green Zone" Meter Update*

As the community may have noticed, the City is in the process of installing 20 new meters in “green zones” around downtown and on the west side of the 100 block of Hermosa Avenue. These meters, introduced in line with a previous City Council ordinance to improve local parking access, will benefit local businesses by ensuring fair and efficient use of the City’s limited parking resources.

The City’s “green zones” were originally implemented to allow for quick visits and customer pick-up of items in some of our most popular commercial areas. The new “green zone” meters seek to ensure that these spaces remain readily available by limiting parking to 24 minutes per session between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., and 2 or 3 hours from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. (depending on the posted limit).

To allow for very brief visits to remain free, these meters feature a 5-minute “grace period” function that can be utilized by pressing the green “+” button on the meter head. This will allow 5 free minutes of parking in the space. More information can be found on the Public Parking page of the City’s website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/city-departments/finance/finance-cashier/public-parking-lots-meters?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

*SolarApp+ Online Platform *

The Community Development Department is excited to introduce SolarAPP+, a free online platform that speeds up the solar permit process for most residential rooftop installations. Our Los Angeles County Fire partners have also launched an expedited process for Energy Storage System permits. These new systems offer “real-time” plan review and permit approval, making it easier to move forward with solar and energy storage projects. To learn more about SolarAPP+, the County’s expedited permit system and how they help contribute to our City’s clean energy goals, please visit the City’s website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/city-departments/community-development/solarapp-for-solar-installers?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].

*Get Out To VOTE *

As the November 5, 2024, election approaches, Hermosa Beach residents will have the opportunity to vote on Measure HB, an initiative designed to generate funding for local priorities. If passed, Measure HB would enact a ¾ cent local sales tax, generating an estimated $3 million annually to support public safety and essential city services.

Measure HB is designed to address growing demands on local services. Additional resources may help maintain effective emergency response and support crime prevention efforts, ensuring Hermosa Beach continues to provide important public safety programs and services for residents, visitors, and businesses.

In addition, Measure HB could help fund critical infrastructure needs. From repairing streets and sidewalks to upgrading community facilities, the measure aims to keep Hermosa Beach’s public spaces clean, safe, and accessible. For more information on Measure HB, please visit the City’s website [ https://www.hermosabeach.gov/our-government/city-departments/city-clerk/current-election-information/ballot-measure-hb?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ].
