Whether you are traveling or staying local this Thanksgiving break, we have tips and important information to share with you. As you begin your holiday shopping, friendly reminder that this Saturday, November 26, is 'Small Business Saturday.' Shop small by supporting local businesses. The City will be offering FREE parking at some business corridors. The Long Beach Health and Human Services Department is urging the community to take preventative steps to stay safe and healthy as Respiratory viruses such as the flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) are currently circulating at higher rates than usual for this time of year. City of Long Beach Facilities and Services Thanksgiving Week Schedule In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, some City of Long Beach facilities will be closed and services may be impacted on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, 2022. Click here City Encourages Residents to Shop Local by Participating in Small Business Saturday The City of Long Beach is encouraging residents to support local businesses by participating in Small Business Saturday, taking place on Saturday, Nov. 26. As the holiday shopping season officially kicks off, the City is launching a social media campaign to promote shopping local and encourage people to discover local businesses and will also offer free metered parking at multiple shopping areas in Long Beach. Learn more Long Beach Pledge – Guaranteed Income Pilot Application Now Open Today, the City of Long Beach launched the application period for the Long Beach Pledge, the City’s guaranteed income pilot program. The program will provide $500 a month for 12 months to 250 families with children who live in the 90813 zip code, are below 100% of the federal poverty line and have one income earner for their household. The application is open for eligible residents now through Jan. 17, 2023, at 4:59 p.m. (PST). Read more Long Beach Airport Rolls Out New Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting Vehicle On behalf of the City of Long Beach, Long Beach Airport (LGB) recently purchased a new Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting vehicle, which will be operated by the Long Beach Fire Department and housed at Fire Station 16 next to the airfield. Click here City of Long Beach Launches Micro-Transit Shuttle Program for Downtown and Alamitos Beach Areas The City of Long Beach launched its electric-powered shuttle service for the Downtown Long Beach – Alamitos Beach neighborhoods as part of the Micro-Transit Shuttle program. This is the second and final fleet of electric-powered shuttles, which will operate Thursdays through Sundays*, and are intended to support mobility programs for economic recovery, promote non-automotive transportation modes for trips under three miles and alleviate parking impacts by connecting to nearby underutilized parking lots. Learn more The City of Long Beach is Now Accepting Plans from Design Professionals for the Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit Program! The City is seeking licensed California architects and engineers to provide prototype accessory dwelling unit (ADU) plans and/or manufactured ADU designs that can be made available for use by property owners in an effort to help streamline the ADU approval process. The deadline to submit plans is Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Learn more City Launches Sidewalk Vending Survey The City of Long Beach invites the community to take the Sidewalk Vending Survey, now available at longbeach.gov/sidewalkvending, to provide their input on the future of sidewalk vending in Long Beach. Survey results will support the development of sidewalk vending regulations consistent with state regulations, including Senate Bill 946 (SB 946) and Senate Bill 972 (SB 972), and will additionally be informed by data, expert opinion and community input.
