Can anyone tell me about family life in LA ？?

We are planning to move to LA this summer with our family of four.
My wife and I have lived in NY before, but we are newbies in LA with almost no acquaintances.
I'm sorry that we have almost no information to offer, but we would be happy to connect with anyone who has experience or knowledge about the cost of living and schooling for children, especially with a family relocation.
I will be in LA next week for a short stay (3/3~7).
